I'm not nearly as involved as I should be in our global community.
I had a discussion with a friend who is attempting to build a company in the sustainability space, which touched on the mentality behind giving - whether that's time, money or resources.

One of her favourite people, Matt Damon (co-founder of Water.org), said he soon realised that just building and giving isn't a solution to helping vulnerable communities. People want the opportunity to help themselves, so showing up with a fancy invention and leaving it in the middle of an African village is unlikely to be the answer. If we're to help make a difference, we have to ask how we can help, rather than decide for ourselves.

I don't consider myself to be a position to help most causes directly, so I'd rather give to those, Like Matt, who are trying to make a difference in the most effective ways - and the goal is to become more personally involved over time.
